Inspiration for Study of an Islander
Study of an Islander represents another day of the palette-knife challenge. A friends and I used to paint occasionally entirely with a palette knife. Focusing on this important, unique, but rather unpredictable painting tool really helps an artist get a handle on its use. The model hailed from somewhere in the Pacific islands, although I’m afraid I can’t remember which one specifically. I thought the texture produced by the knife in this painting is interesting without being distracting. I hope to achieve this quality in future paintings!
