Bennington Congregational | 9×12 | Oil on Linen Panel
Inspiration for Bennington Congregational
I started Bennington Congregational en plein air during the Oil Painters of America National Exhibition in Bennington, VT. A few of us artists blew off a morning of lectures to squeeze in some painting: good times! I fondly recall that I was the first to pick this particular subject matter, and then two or three of the other artists followed my lead…trendsetting for the win, haha. I really liked the way it started, but just couldn’t find time to come back around and finish it off until this past month, almost two years after the initial paint hit the canvas. But it was worth the wait! What a beautiful, peaceful scene: the colors, the clouds, the pristine whiteness, the classic architecture…a real winner!
