Dockyard Afternoon | 9×12 | Oil on Panel
Inspiration for Dockyard Afternoon
I started Dockyard Afternoon en plein air and finished in the studio. This marina is one of my go-to spots for working boats. The location is, I believe, the last marina in Pensacola where both shrimp and snapper boats can still be found. In tandem with the marina is a boatyard where there are always a half-dozen or so craft in various states of (dis)repair: a lot of interesting textures present in these old, weather-beaten tubs.
