Inspiration for Tech Rec

I started this painting of the Tech Rec en plein air in late spring with a wonderful student. (Here in Florida, plein air painting is mostly an autumn through spring endeavor. Summertime is just too hot, hot, hot! …and also humid, humid, humid!) The location is one of my favorite places; a private marina owned by AC Williams Seafood Company. It is situated just behind one of Pensacola’s landmark seafood markets, Joe Patti’s. The marina is, as far as I know, home to Pensacola’s final few shrimp boats and commercial snapper boats. No matter how often I go to paint at this location, it seems like there’s a different feel to the place each time. Depending on the season, weather conditions, boats at dock, perspective from which I’m painting, etc., the inspiration is new on every occasion!
