Skandi Seven | 9×12 | Oil on Linen Panel

Inspiration for Skandi Seven

Lately I’ve been interested in painting ships from the bow-on angle, as with the Skandi Seven. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen another artist attempt this perspective…perhaps other artists think the symmetry and lack of depth too static. But I think it’s neat! Bow-on, these industrial ships have a complexly patterned, brightly hued, geometrically beautiful symmetry: like a giant, 9074 gross-tonnage butterfly! 😀

Information about the Ship

Some technical stats about this particular vessel: Skandi Seven is a DNV 1A1 class offshore support vessel. It was built in 2008 and currently sails under the flag of United Kingdom. The ship has a 121 meter length overall and beam of 23 meters, and her gross tonnage is 9074 tons. Her parent company built the vessel vessel to be fuel efficient and meet future environmental standards. The ship is an ICE class and DP AUTR-O Class (IMO DP3), so it has the capability to work in most of the world’s offshore oil and gas precincts. Visit the DOF Subsea Group website for more info!
