Inspiration for Red Birdhouse Study

Red Birdhouse Study marks the first time I’ve painted a birdhouse in about two decades. I loved birds as a kid (still pretty fond of them now!), but haven’t focused on our feathered friends as subject matter again until just recently. Back in September, I spent a few days visiting family with my Wife. This birdhouse hangs in their backyard and got the nod when I went looking about for source material. It called my name partly because of my fondness for birds, partly because of the bright red set against the green foliage…and partly because the weather threatened rain and the birdhouse was located next to their covered back porch. 😀
