Pensacola Lighthouse Winter | 8×10 | Oil on Panel

Inspiration for Pensacola Lighthouse Winter

Although the Pensacola Lighthouse is a regular favorite of mine to paint, Pensacola Lighthouse Winter was a commission. Obviously I try to find a unique perspective or mood for every iteration; on this occasion, I was intrigued by the subtle yet actually rather vibrant colors as the winter sun quickly dipped below the tree line. The horizontal, shadowed foreground elements juxtaposed against the vertical, brilliantly lighted form of the tower was also a striking aspect. After she had received the piece, the new collector wrote a lovely note: “I absolutely love my painting of the lighthouse!”
