Inspiration for Moonrise Over the Inlet

I returned to the gazebo off 17th Avenue in Pensacola to begin Moonrise Over the Inlet. Bayou Texar rarely becomes quiet enough to reflect the sky and trees so wonderfully, so I knew I had to take advantage of the opportunity! The gazebo provided a perfect, shady place to set up my Soltek travel easel out of the sun’s brilliant rays. What a wonderful stroke of fortune that a “Harvest Moon” was shining brightly above the trees! The combination produced an incredibly peaceful scene that I can still feel when I look at this painting.

On Seeing the Moon During the Day…

I found an article that gives a brief explanation of why and when we see the moon during the daytime. It’s really not all that magical once you learn the scientific reason, but don’t let that take away from your enjoyment of the scene! 😀 Read a bit more about daytime moons here.
