Inspiration for Historic Downtown III
Historic Downtown III showcases the Lear-Rocheblave House, one of downtown Pensacola’s beautiful homes in the Historic District. This house has such an inviting feeling with its yellow ocher walls, white railings, and green door! I started the painting en plein air and wanted to focus exclusively on the house. Without any of our modern inventions or stylings in the picture, the home exudes a timeless quality that I love.
The House at 214 E. Zaragoza St.
Pensacola’s historic district lies near Seville Square in the heart of downtown. More about the Lear-Rocheblave House from Historic Pensacola’s website: “The spacious rooms and jig-sawed porches of this two-story Folk Victorian architecture example recall a time when large families made their homes near Historic Pensacola’s Seville Square. Although built for John and Kate Lear, they never lived in the home. Captain Benito Rocheblave owned and lived in the house for many years during the turn-of-the-century.” Visit Historic Pensacola’s website for additional information about the home and to learn about all the buildings held under the UWF Historic Trust!
