Docking for Repairs | 24×36 | Oil on Linen
Inspiration for Docking for Repairs
Occasionally a painting percolates in the last 5% of completion, and Docking for Repairs was one of those pieces! I truly believe the finishing touches can make the difference between a good and great painting. And sometimes it takes an extended period of time to get them right! I painted the color study en plein air at the Port of Pensacola. Soon afterwards, the Maritime Museum juried it into their “Plein Air Painters of the Maritime Gallery” show.
Chembulk Houston’s Accident
On March 5, 2015, tanker Chembulk Houston and container ship Monte Alegre collided and grounded in the Houston Ship Channel. The pilots had agreed to let the Chembulk Houston overtake the Monte Alegre when both ships were inbound in the channel. No injuries or pollution resulted from the accident, but both vessels sustained damage above their waterlines, totaling more than $1.7 million.
